"The Glass Hotel" by Emily St John Mandel Review
Book 18: "The Glass Hotel" by @emilystjohnmandel
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One Sentence Synopsis: A massive Ponzi scheme collapse and the mysterious disappearance of a woman from a ship at sea. 💸
This was the first book I purchased since starting my Bookstagram that wasn't a #bookstagrammademedoitpurchase!! I randomly came across it while shopping for other books, and knew I needed to read it (especially because part of it is set in Canada 🇨🇦)!
This book is a real puzzle with many small details you have to pay attention to, especially with the fact that the timeline jumps around A LOT and you're flipping between different characters perspectives.
It's beautifully written and I really enjoyed the premise "a captivating novel of money, beauty, white-collar crime, ghosts, and moral compromise". But, there was so much going on, that at the end it felt like there was still so much missing (I actually got to the end and had to double check that I wasn't missing pages!).
Recommend?: YES! It kept me really engaged throughout and I really enjoyed the premise. The ending just felt very rushed to me. 📚
Can you recommend any other books about Ponzi schemes? ✨
